Youth Art Month
OAEA is proud to sponsor the Youth Art Month (YAM)
exhibition in conjunction with Youth Art Month every March.
OAEA is so excited to share the one hundred and twenty amazing submissions this year. In the past we have had two separate student shows for K-8 students. One was the Young Peoples Art Exhibit and the other is Youth Art Month. The last few years we have had all of the March shows at one venue, so we are merging the shows this year.
YAM is a juried show where art educators of the 8 regions in the Ohio Art Education Association are invited to submit artworks for the PK-8th grade statewide show during the month of March. This year marks the 45th annual exhibition for us!
The Ohio Youth Art Month Exhibition is dedicated to the memory of Christie J. Casper, an art teacher who served the Hillsdale School District for 25 years. She was also instrumental in organizing the statewide exhibitions. The exhibition honors Christie’s leadership, boundless energy, and enthusiastic support of art education by continuing her mission to promote excellence in the arts for young people throughout the state of Ohio.
YAM Submissions for the 2025 exhibition are now closed.
OAEA members can submit up to two student works from grades K-8 to this show. From the regional level, the art pieces are given to the state YPAE and YAM chairs to exhibit.
OAEA members may submit artwork here online from those two students. Besides contact information, this form will request the upload of photos of the student artwork online. It will also require student name, contact info, teacher name and contact info, school name and contact info, artwork title, and medium used. Please complete this form one time for each student work submission.
OAEA has hosted two shows since 1980, Youth Art Month and also the Young Peoples Art Exhibition. The two shows were merged for the 2025 show. Students from all eight regions of our state are represented. In years past, the shows have displayed over 250 students from around the state.
Teachers are asked to fill out the entry form and upload photos of the student artwork online. The photos will also be uploaded to Artsonia, for the exhibition programs and sketchbooks and documentation.
We would like at least a 3 inch matte on each side of 2D pieces and a lightweight backing to keep artwork straight and supported. Artwork pick up and drop off will be coordinated with your regional directors.
Letters to the students will be going out by early to mid February. Teachers will be getting an e-mail. The letters and e-mail will provide information for the Recognition Ceremony in March.
You can see all the YPAE and YAM art on the website Artsonia.com. We host all the work here, go to the website and search OAEA under schools to take you to the site with work. You can purchase any art items and 20% of all purchases goes back to our exhibitions fund.
Thanks to all the teachers for submitting art to these state shows. In the always changing world of education we need to continue to strive to keep the creativity of the visual arts in the lives of our students!
